Ayapathu People
Ross on behalf of the Cape York United #1 Claim Group v State of Queensland (No 8) (Ayapathu determination) [2022] FCA 772
Cape York Land Council Aboriginal Corporation as trustee for Cape York Trust will hold a consultation meeting with the Ayapathu People who hold native title rights and interests in the area of exploration permit for minerals (EPM) 27632; EPM 27961; 27962; 27963; 27964; 19683; 27633 (shown on the map below). The tenement areas are either wholly or partly within the Ayapathu determination area (depicted in the below map).
The meeting will be held as follows:

Venue: Wunthulpu Visitors Centre, Peninsula Development Road, Coen
Who is invited to attend the meeting?
The consultation meeting is open to Ayapathu Native Title Holders (as defined in the approved determination of native title made by the Federal Court in Ross on behalf of the Cape York United #1 Claim Group v State of Queensland (No 8) (Ayapathu determination) [2022] FCA 772) who hold interests in the tenement areas. Please contact the Cape York Land Council Anthropology and Research Unit if you would like to confirm whether you are a member of the Ayapathu Native Title Group and entitled to attend the meeting.
Meeting purpose
The purpose of the meeting is to:
- explain the background of the Cape York Trust;
- discuss a proposed methodology to determine distributions of trust capital;
- answer questions in relation to the Cape York Trust;
- nominate the prescribed body corporate as the beneficiary to receive capital on behalf of the common law holders.
