INFORMATION MEETING ABOUT THE
ENDEAVOUR STRAIT CLAIMS

This notice is to advise that Cape York Land Council (CYLC) will hold a meeting on Friday 21 August 2026 in Injinoo for all members of the Ankamuthi Native Title Group[cite: 11]. The purpose of the meeting is to provide general information about the two overlapping native title claims for the Endeavour Strait area that are each before the Federal Court[cite: 11]. These are the Ankamuthi People Sea Claim (proceeding QUD356/2025) and the Gudang Yadhaykenu People Sea Claim (proceeding QUD357/2025) (the Endeavour Strait Claims)[cite: 11]. A map of the area subject of the Endeavour Strait Claims is below[cite: 11]. CYLC will facilitate the meeting[cite: 11].
The meeting will be held as follows:

Venue: Injinoo Hall, 54 McDonnell Street, Injinoo, QLD 4876
Purpose of the meeting
On 6 August 2026, the Federal Court requested that CYLC provide objective information about the Endeavour Strait Claims to the communities involved in the proceedings[cite: 11]. A CYLC lawyer will provide information to the Ankamuthi Native Title Group about what the Endeavour Strait Claims are about, what the Endeavour Strait Claims are not about and about the importance of respectful conduct[cite: 11].
Who is invited to attend these meeting?
The meeting is open to those Aboriginal people who are descendants by birth or adoption, in accordance with the traditional laws acknowledged and traditional customs observed by the Ankamuthi Native Title Group, from one or more of the following apical ancestors:
- Woobumu and Inmare[cite: 11]
- Bullock (father of Mamoose Pitt, husband of Rosie/Lena Braidley)[cite: 11]
- Charlie Mamoose (father of Silas, Larry, Johnny and Harry Mamoose)[cite: 11]
- Charlie Seven River[cite: 11]
- Toby Seven River (father of Jack Toby)[cite: 11]
- Asai Charlie[cite: 11]
- Sam and Nellie (parents of George Stephen)[cite: 11]
- Mammus/Mamoos/Mark/Mamoose plus his siblings Peter and Elizabeth[cite: 11]
- Charlie Maganu (husband of Sarah McDonnell)[cite: 11]
- Polly (wife of Wautaba Charlie Ropeyarn)[cite: 11]
Any person who is a descendant of one or more of the apical ancestors listed above is invited to attend the meeting[cite: 11].
