NOTICE OF CONSULTATION
Wujal Wujal – S.24KA and S.24JAA notification consultation
Cape York United #1 Native Title Claim (QUD673/2014)
In December 2023, the town of Wujal Wujal was subject to the effects of tropical Cyclone Jasper and its subsequent flooding event. The results of the cyclone and flooding left infrastructure within the community damaged and in need of repair and / or replacement. Provided in the map below are the areas of the Wujal Wujal town area that are subject to either s.24KA and s.24JAA notifications issued under the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth) in relation to upgrade and repair works. These notices pertained to the following projects:
- building a carpark for the cemetery and extending the existing cemetery;
- upgrading township drainage infrastructure;
- installing a waste transfer facility;
- building an SES shed; and
- developing a place of refuge.
The proposed works fall wholly within the Cape York United Number 1 native title claim (CYU#1). Cape York Land Council (CYLC) will be facilitating a meeting to discuss the notification of these works.

Purpose of this meeting:
The purpose of this meeting is:
- to discuss the s.24KA and s.24JAA notifications;
- to discuss the proposed works and their potential impact to native title and cultural heritage interests within the notification areas; and
- for CYLC to take instructions from those people who hold or may hold native title interests in the area concerning the progression of these items.

Travel Attendance
CYLC has limited funding available for travel assistance to this meeting. CYLC may be able to provide some assistance, for example fuel reimbursement. CYLC will prioritise assisting elders and family representatives and will consider how limited funding can be allocated to support a broad representation of the affected Native Title Holders.
