NOTICE OF CONSULTATION
EPM 29122 and 29149
Kowanyama People determination (QUD 6119 of 1998), Kunjen Olkol determination (QUD 673 of 2014), Kunjen Olkol and Kowanyama People determination (QUD 673 of 2014).
On 27 August 2025, the State of Queensland issued a notification under s.29(7) of the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth) (NTA) identifying Exploration Permits for Minerals (EPMs) 29122 and 29149 as acts that attract the expedited procedure.
This notice is to advise that Cape York Land Council (CYLC) will be facilitating a consultation meeting for those Native Title Holders who hold rights and interests in the areas of EPM 29122 and 29149 (as shown on the map below) that fall within the Abm Elgoring Ambung Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC, Kunjen Olkol Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC and Kowanyama People Kunjen Olkol and Olkola Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC’s. At this meeting, CYLC will discuss the expedited procedure and options available to progress this matter.

Purpose of this meeting:
The purpose of this meeting is for CYLC to provide information and take instructions in relation to:
- the expedited procedure statement under the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth) attached to the notification of EPMs 29122 and 29149;
- cultural heritage that may be affected within the EPMs area; and
- options available to progress this matter under the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth) and the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 2003 (Qld).

Travel Attendance
CYLC has limited funding available for travel assistance to this meeting. CYLC may be able to provide some assistance, for example fuel reimbursement. CYLC will prioritise assisting elders and family representatives and will consider how limited funding can be allocated to support a broad representation of the affected Native Title Holders.
