EASTERN KUKU YALANJI NATIVE TITLE GROUP

Cape York United #1 Native Title Claim (QUD673/2014)

WEDNESDAY 26 AND THURSDAY 27 NOVEMBER 2025

This notice is to advise that CYLC will convene a meeting on behalf of the Cape York United #1 (CYU#1) Claim Applicant over two days on Wednesday 26 and Thursday 27 November 2025 for all members of the Eastern Kuku Yalanji Native Title Group in relation to the relevant part of the CYU#1 Claim Area shown in purple in the map below.

Time: 11:00am – 5:00pm (Registration from 10:30am)
Venue: Wujal Wujal Recreation Hall, 91 Kotzur St, Wujal Wujal

DAY 2

Date: Thursday 27 November 2025
Time: 9:30am – 3pm (Registration from 9am)
Venue: Wujal Wujal Recreation Hall, 91 Kotzur St, Wujal Wujal

What is the purpose of this meeting?

The purpose of this meeting is:

  1. to further CONSIDER, and if appropriate CONFIRM a number of potential additional apical ancestors for inclusion in the draft group description for the Eastern Kuku Yalanji Native Title Group; and
  2. for the legal representatives of the CYU#1 Applicant to provide an UPDATE and DISCUSS the next steps required to progress towards a determination of native title for the Eastern Kuku Yalanji Native Title Group.

Who may attend this meeting?

All members of the Eastern Kuku Yalanji Native Title Group are eligible and invited to attend this meeting. If you are unsure as to whether you are a person who may attend this meeting, please contact CYLC’s Anthropology Unit.

As this is an important decision-making meeting, all members of the Eastern Kuku Yalanji Native Title Group are strongly encouraged to attend. The CYU#1 Expert Genealogist Kate Walters will present on the apical ancestors and will also have availability to meet with families on request.

This is the last opportunity for the legal representatives of the CYU#1 Applicant to take instructions on the group description, which it will do by way of resolution.

In accordance with the applicable Federal Court timetable, the group and boundary descriptions must be decided by the Eastern Kuku Yalanji group and provided to the State for final agreement.
