This notice is to advise that the Cape York Land Council (CYLC) will convene a 2-day decision-making meeting on behalf of the Applicant in the Cape York United #1 (CYU#1) Claim on Tuesday 23 September and Wednesday 24 September 2025. This meeting will be held in Cairns for all members of the Western Yalanji Native Title Group, in relation to the areas outlined in purple on the map below within the Cape York United #1 Claim. Details of this meeting are as follows:

Purpose of Meeting
The purpose of this meeting is to:
- Consider and confirm the proposed list of apical ancestors which make up the group description for the Western Yalanji Native Title Group; and
- provide an update on the CYU#1 Claim and to discuss next steps required to progress towards a determination of native title.
As this is an important decision-making meeting, we strongly encourage all members of the Western Yalanji Native Title Group to attend. Consultant Genealogist for the CYU#1 Claim, Kate Waters, will present on the proposed list of Western Yalanji apical ancestors and will also have availability to meet with families on request. The legal representatives of the CYU#1 Applicant will take instructions on the group description for Western Yalanji by way of resolution. In accordance with the Federal Court timetable, the group descriptions must be decided by Western Yalanji and provided to the State by October 2025 for final agreement in anticipation of the consent determination proposed to be held in June 2026.

All members of the Western Yalanji Native Title Group are invited to attend the meeting. If you are unsure as to whether you are a person who may attend this meeting, please contact the Anthropology Unit at CYLC.
