NOTICE OF CONSULTATION

RESCHEDULED DATE OF MEETING

EPM 28074 – EPM 27786 – EPM 28248
Northern Cape York Group #1 (QUD157/2011) & Northern Cape York Group #3 (QUD780/2016)

This notice is to advise that Cape York Land Council (CYLC) will facilitate a meeting with those Native Title Holders whose traditional land and waters are directly affected by the proposed grant of the following Exploration Permits for Minerals (EPMs), as shown on the map below:

  • 28074 held by Silica Australia Pty Ltd (below in pink);
  • 28248 held by Industrial Commodities Pty Ltd (below in blue); and
  • 27786 held by Latsod Pty Ltd (below in green).

EPMs 28074, 28242 and 27786 are under the normal negotiation procedure under s. 31 of the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth) (NTA). At this meeting, CYLC will table the proposed ancillary agreement for this matter and seek the affected Native Title Holders feedback on the proposed terms of this agreement.

Purpose of this meeting

The nominated Working Group has attended meetings and negotiations to progress the matters of EPM 27786, 28074 and 28248. The Working Group has not been authorised by the affected Native Title Holders to authorise the terms of an agreement.

The terms of the proposed ancillary agreement, as required by s. 31 of the NTA, will be tabled at this meeting for the affected Native Title Holders consideration, comment, review and if appropriate, approval.

Travel Attendance

CYLC has limited funding available for travel assistance to this meeting. CYLC may be able to provide some assistance, for example fuel reimbursement. CYLC will prioritise assisting elders and family representatives and will consider how limited funding can be allocated to support a broad representation of the affected Native Title Holders.
