NOTICE OF CONSULTATION
Cooktown Hospital – Cultural Heritage Management Plan Proposal
Cape York United #1 Native Title Claim (QUD673/2014)
On 24 April 2025, the State of Queensland issued written notice to the Registered Native Title Claimants for the Cape York United #1 Claim (QUD673/2014) (CYU#1 Claim) of its intention to develop a Cultural Heritage Management Plan (CHMP) under Part 7 of the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 2003 (Qld) (ACHA) for the Cooktown Multi-Purpose Health Service Redevelopment Project. The area proposed to be subject to the CHMP is provided in the map below, which is described as the whole of Lot 92 on Crown Plan C17930 (as shown on the map in blue) and adjacent road reserve (as shown on the map in yellow) (collectively, the Project Area).
Cape York Land Council (CYLC) will facilitate a meeting with those people who hold or may hold Native Title rights and interests in the Project Area to discuss the proposed CHMP.

Purpose of this meeting:
The purpose of this meeting is for CYLC to provide information and seek instructions from those people who hold or may hold Native Title rights and interests in the proposed Project Area in relation to:
- the works proposed by the State of Queensland for the Cooktown Multi-Purpose Health Service Redevelopment Project;
- cultural heritage that may be impacted by the proposed works in the Project Area;
- options available to progress this matter by way of CHMP pursuant to the ACHA.

Travel Attendance
CYLC has limited funding available for travel assistance to this meeting. CYLC may be able to provide some assistance, for example fuel reimbursement. CYLC will prioritise assisting elders and family representatives and will consider how limited funding can be allocated to support a broad representation of the affected Native Title Holders.
