This notice is to advise that the Cape York Land Council (CYLC) will convene a decision-making meeting on behalf of the Applicant in the Cape York United #1 (CYU#1) Claim on Tuesday 29 July 2025 in Mareeba for all members of the Western Yalanji Native Title Group in relation to the area shown in pink on the map below within the Cape York United #1 Claim. Details of this meeting are as follows:

Venue: Mareeba Leagues Club, Cnr Doyle & Reardon Streets, Mareeba QLD 4880
Purpose of Meeting
The purpose of this meeting is to:
- consider the proposed list of apical ancestors which make up the group description for the Western Yalanji Native Title Group; and
- provide an update on the CYU#1 Claim and to discuss next steps required to progress towards a determination of native title.
As this is an important decision-making meeting, we strongly encourage all members of the Western Yalanji Native Title Group to attend. The CYU#1 Expert Genealogist Kate Waters will present on the apical ancestors and will also have availability to meet with families on request. The legal representatives of the CYU#1 Applicant will take instructions on the group description for Western Yalanji by way of resolution. In accordance with the applicable Federal Court timetable, the group descriptions must be decided by Western Yalanji and provided to the State for final agreement in anticipation of the consent determination proposed to be held in June 2026.

All members of the Western Yalanji Native Title Group are invited to attend the meeting. If you are unsure as to whether you are a person who may attend this meeting, please contact the Anthropology Unit at CYLC.
