This notice is to advise that Cape York Land Council (CYLC) will hold information meetings on Tuesday 27 May 2025 in Cairns and Wednesday 28 May 2025 in Coen for all members of the Kuuku Ya’u, Uutaalnganu, Umpila and Lama Lama Native Title Groups about native title determination applications over sea country and islands (Sea Claims), particularly in north-eastern Cape York (as indicated on the map below). CYLC will facilitate the meetings. Please note that other information meetings in other communities in Cape York such as Lockhart River, Weipa and in the NPA are proposed to be held and are proposed to be notified in due course.

Cairns
Date: Tuesday 27 May 2025

Coen
Date: Wednesday 28 May 2025
Time: 12.00pm – 1.00pm (lunch provided)
Venue: Wunthulpu Centre, Coen
Purpose of the meetings
A CYLC lawyer will provide information to members of the Kuuku Ya’u, Uutaalnganu, Umpila and Lama Lama Native Title Groups about native title generally and particularly in relation to sea country. There will be opportunity for discussion in relation to Sea Claims, and for the CYLC lawyer present to listen to native title holders’ aspirations in relation to sea country rights and interests, including native title.
Who is invited to attend these meeting?
Each meeting is open to all members of each of the Kuuku Ya’u, Uutaalnganu, Umpila and Lama Lama Native Title Groups to attend. Please contact CYLC if you would like to enquire as to whether you are a member of any of the above native title groups.
