NOTICE OF CONSULTATION: Construction works – Ayton Boat Ramp (Bloomfield River) – Cape York United #1 Native Title Claim (QUD673/2014)

On 27 March 2025, the Wet Tropics Management Authority (WTMA) issued a notification to the Applicant of the Cape York United Number 1 Native Title Claim (QUD673/2014) (CYU#1 Claim) under s. 24KA of the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth) (NTA). This notification identifies that Marine Safety Queensland (MSQ) has applied for a permit under s. 34 of the Wet Tropics Management Plan 1998 (Qld) to undertake construction works to repair the damaged Ayton boat ramp (Bloomfield River) and reconstruct the pontoon damaged during the floods associated with Tropical Cyclone Jasper.

Cape York land Council (CYLC) will facilitate a meeting with those people who hold or may hold Native Title rights and interests within the CYU#1 Claim in the area shown on the map below in pink.

The meeting will be held as follows

The purpose of the meeting:

The purpose of this meeting is for CYLC to provide information on the s. 24KA notification and take instructions, if
appropriate, in relation to:

  • cultural heritage that may be affected within the area of the construction works proposed by MSQ;
  • management of the proposed works under the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 2003 (Qld); and
  • the contents of the comment provided by the Applicant of the CYU#1 Claim under s. 24KA(7) of the NTA, if required.
