This notice is to advise that (CYLC) will convene a meeting on behalf of the Cape York United #1 (CYU#1) Claim Applicant on Thursday, 1 May 2025 for all members of the Guugu Yimidhirr Native Title Group, including persons descended from the proposed Guugu Yimidhirr apical ancestors, in relation to the area shown on the map below within the (CYU#1) Claim.
This meeting has been rescheduled from 4 April 2025.
Date: Thursday, 1 May 2025
Time: 9:30am – 2pm (Registration from 9am)
Venue: Pioneer Hall, Muni Street, Hopevale
Teleconferencing facilities will also be made available at the meeting.
What is the purpose of this meeting?
- to CONSIDER, and if appropriate CONFIRM the proposed Guugu Yimidhirr apical ancestors for inclusion in the group description for the Guugu Yimidhirr Native Title Group; and
- for the legal representatives of the (CYU#1) Applicant to provide an UPDATE and DISCUSS the next steps required to progress towards a determination of native title for the Guugu Yimidhirr Native Title Group in October 2025, which include a PBC workshop and authorisation meetings scheduled for May and June 2025.
Who may attend this meeting?
All Guugu Yimidhirr People, including persons descended from the proposed Guugu Yimidhirr apical ancestors, are eligible and invited to attend this meeting. If you are unsure as to whether you are a person who may attend this meeting, or if you wish to discuss the proposed Guugu Yimidhirr apical ancestors and whether you are a descendant thereof, please contact Tara Zaicz on free call number 1800 623 548 or by email tzaicz@cylc.org.au.
As this is an important decision-making meeting, all members of the Guugu Yimidhirr Native Title Group, including descendants of the proposed Guugu Yimidhirr apical ancestors, are encouraged to attend. The legal representatives of the (CYU#1) Applicant will take instructions on the group description for the Guugu Yimidhirr by way of resolution. In accordance with the applicable Federal Court timetable, the group and boundary descriptions must be decided by the Guugu Yimidhirr group and provided to the State for final agreement.
