NOTICE OF CONSULTATION MEETING ML 100321 – ML 100322 – ML 100323

This notice is to advise that Cape York Land Council (CYLC) will facilitate a meeting with the Kunjen Olkol native title group regarding the area subject to the proposed grant of Mining Leases (MLs) 100321, 100322 and 100323 held by Aurum Vale Pty Ltd (as shown on the map below). The Mining Leases were originally notified on 12 October 2022, and then subsequently re-notified on 24 April 2024, under s. 29 of the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth) (NTA) and are subject to the right to negotiate under s. 31 of the NTA.

Purpose of this meeting:

The purpose of this meeting is for CYLC to provide information and seek instructions in relation to:

  • the right to negotiate procedure under the NTA attached to the notification of MLs 100321, 100322 and 100323;
  • the draft terms of the proposed ancillary agreement negotiated between the Native Title Party and Aurum Vale Pty Ltd for MLs 100321, 100322 and 100323;
  • options available to progress this matter under the NTA and the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 2003 (Qld); and
  • if appropriate, authorising the draft ancillary agreement for MLs 100321, 100322 and 100323.

CYLC will prioritise assisting elders and family representatives and will consider how limited funding can be allocated to support a broad representation of the affected Native Title Holders.
