Cape York United #1 Native Title Claim (QUD673/2014)

On 6 December 2023, the Department of Resources issued a notification under section 29(7) of the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth) identifying that proposed Exploration Permit for Minerals (EPM) 28569 is an act that attracts the expedited procedure.

This notice is to advise that Cape York Land Council (CYLC) will facilitate a meeting with those people who or may hold Native Title rights and interests within the Cape York United #1 Native Title Claim (QUD673/2014) (CYU#1 Claim) within the proposed grant of EPM 28569 (as shown on the map below in hatched).

Date: 25 November 2024
When: 10:00 am – 1:00 pm
Venue*: Royals Church, 9 Park Ave, Mareeba QLD 4880
*Video conference facilities will also be available upon request.

Purpose of this meeting:

The purpose of this meeting is for CYLC to provide information and take instructions, if appropriate, in relation to:

  • cultural heritage that may be affected within the EPM area; and
  • the negotiation of a proposed Cultural Heritage Agreement for the area of EPM 28569 within the CYU#1 Claim area.

Travel Attendance

CYLC has limited funding available for travel assistance to this meeting. CYLC may be able to provide some assistance, for example fuel reimbursement. CYLC will prioritise assisting elders and family representatives and will consider how limited funding can be allocated to support a broad representation of the affected Native Title Holders.
