NOTICE OF MEETING FOR ANKAMUTHI NATIVE TITLE GROUP

This notice is to advise that Cape York Land Council (CYLC) will hold a meeting on Thursday 7 November 2024 in Bamaga for all members of the Ankamuthi Native Title Group about the areas not yet determined that are part of the Northern Peninsula Sea Claim (QUD 114/2017) (NP Sea Claim) and North Eastern Peninsula Sea Claim (QUD 115/2017) (NEP Sea Claim) in the Endeavour Strait as shown on the map below (Disputed Area). CYLC will facilitate the meeting.

The meeting will be held as follows:

Date: Thursday 7 November 2024
Time: 12.00pm – 1.00pm (following the conclusion of the SRAC RNTBC AGM)
Venue: Cape York Peninsula Lodge, corner Lui & Adidi Streets, Bamaga QLD 4876

Purpose of the meeting

The CYLC lawyer and consultant assisting the Applicants in each of the NP Sea Claim and NEP Sea Claim will consult with the Ankamuthi Native Title Group and if appropriate seek instructions, by way of resolution, about next steps in relation to the Disputed Area in the NP Sea Claim and the NEP Sea Claim and provide information about developments concerning a previously proposed boundary resolution process for the Ankamuthi, Atambaya and Gudang Yadhaykenu Native Title Groups to resolve their common boundaries within the NCY #1 Determination Area (the approved determination of native title made by the Federal Court in Woosup on behalf of the Northern Cape York Group #1 v State of Queensland (No 3) [2014] FCA 1148) and the NCY #3 Determination Area (the approved determination of native title made by the Federal Court in Anderson on behalf of the Northern Cape York #3 Native Title Claim Group v State of Queensland [2017] FCA 830), and why that process will no longer proceed.

Who is invited to attend these meeting?

The meeting is open to those Aboriginal people who are descendants by birth or adoption, in accordance with the traditional laws acknowledged and traditional customs observed by the Ankamuthi Native Title Group, from one or more of the following apical ancestors:

  1. Woobumu and Inmare
  2. Bullock (father of Mamoose Pitt, husband of Rosie/Lena Braidley)
  3. Charlie Mamoose (father of Silas, Larry, Johnny and Harry Mamoose)
  4. Charlie Seven River
  5. Toby Seven River (father of Jack Toby)
  6. Asai Charlie
  7. Sam and Nellie (parents of George Stephen)
  8. Mammus/Mamoos/Mark/Mamoose plus his siblings Peter and Elizabeth
  9. Charlie Maganu (husband of Sarah McDonnell)
  10. Polly (wife of Wautaba Charlie Ropeyarn)
