NOTICE OF DECISION-MAKING MEETING FOR ATAMBAYA NATIVE TITLE GROUP

This notice is to advise that Ipima Ikaya Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC (ICN 8114) (IIAC), assisted by Cape York Land Council (CYLC), will hold a decision-making meeting on Tuesday 1 October 2024 in Bamaga for all members of the Atambaya Native Title Group about: (a) the approved determination of native title made by the Federal Court in Woosup on behalf of the Northern Cape York Group #1 v State of Queensland (No 3) [2014] FCA 1148 (NCY #1 Determination); and, (b) the approved determination of native title made by the Federal Court in Anderson on behalf of the Northern Cape York #3 Native Title Claim Group v State of Queensland [2017] FCA 830 (NCY #3 Determination). CYLC will facilitate the meeting.

The meeting will be held as follows:
Date: Tuesday, 1 October 2024
Time: 5pm – 8pm
Venue: Cape York Peninsula Lodge, Lui St & Adidi St, Bamaga QLD 4876

IIAC as the prescribed body corporate for the NCY #1 Determination and the NCY #3 Determination, and the CYLC lawyer and consultant assisting IIAC, will consult with the Atambaya Native Title Group and if appropriate ask the group to make resolutions about the following matter:

  1. A proposed boundary resolution process for the Atambaya Native Title Group to resolve the group’s boundaries with neighbouring native title groups (being Gudang Yadhaykenu and Ankamuthi Peoples) within the NCY #1 Determination Area and the NCY #3 Determination Area, including resolutions about the persons who hold cultural authority to speak for boundary areas and should represent Atambaya in the process.

Who is invited to attend these meeting?

The meeting is open to those Aboriginal people who are descendants by birth or adoption, in accordance with the traditional laws acknowledged and traditional customs observed by the Atambaya Native Title Group, from one or more of the following apical ancestors:

  3. Nataki Charlie
  4. William ‘Willie’ McDonnell
  5. Charlie McDonnell (father of Charlie Woolhead)
  6. Charlie McDonnell (father of Polly McDonnell aka Polly Peter)
  7. Alligator McDonnell (aka Wondorognu/Wondoronio)
  8. Wargo (father of Kitty McDonnell, Jacko and Frank Doyle)
  9. Epiden & Eteman (parents of Doris Harry)
  10. Kaio
  11. Samba Wooleye (father of Simon and Sarah Peter)
  12. Aitapu aka Atapu/Oitutu (spouse of Jack Wantanu McDonnell and Atunmer/Atunmu)
  13. Atunmer aka Atunmu (spouse of Aitapu aka Atapu/Oitutu)
  14. Jack Wantanu McDonnell (spouse of Aitapu aka Atapu/Oitutu)
