This notice is to advise that CYLC will facilitate a meeting with people who hold Native Title rights and interests in the proposed Exploration Permit for Minerals (EPM) 28626 (as shown on the map below). On 9 August 2023, the Department of Resources issued a notification under section 29(7) of the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth) (NTA) identifying that EPM 28626 is an act that attracts the expedited procedure. Mokwiri AC RNTBC objected to the expedited statement on 4 December 2023.

The purpose of this meeting is:

This matter concerns the proposed grant of EPM 28626. The applicant for EPM 28626 (Abercrombie Resources Pty Ltd) will attend this meeting, by invitation of the Native Title Holders, to discuss its project.

Other items that will be discussed at this meeting:

  • the expedited statement attached under the NTA;
  • cultural heritage that may be affected within the EPM area; and
  • options to progress this matter under the NTA and the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 2003 (Qld).

CYLC will take instructions at this meeting from the affected Native Title Holders.

CYLC will prioritise assisting elders and family representatives and will consider how limited funding can be allocated to support a broad representation of the affected Native Title Holders.
