This notice is to advise that Cape York Land Council (CYLC) will be facilitating a meeting on Tuesday 13 August 2024 2024 in Hopevale for all members of the Guugu Yimidhirr Native Title Group who hold or may hold native title rights and interests in the area shown on the map below within the Cape York United #1 (CYU#1) Claim Area. This meeting has been rescheduled from 6 August 2024 due to sorry business. This is an important decision-making meeting and we encourage all members of the Guugu Yimidhirr Native Title Group to attend. Details of this meeting are as follows:

Time: 9:30am – 4:30pm
Venue: Hopevale Aboriginal Shire Council – Meeting Room, Muni Street, Hopevale
Purpose of Meeting
The purpose of this meeting is for the legal representative of the Applicant in the CYU#1 Claim to provide an update on the boundary identification, negotiation and mediation process (BINM) for the Guugu Yimidhirr Native Title Group and to seek instructions from the group, including in relation to:
1. The boundary proposed by the Yithuwarra Native Title Group, commencing at the Jeannie River; and
2. The area between the Endeavour River and the Annan River at the coast, extends westward to the Normanby River, which is currently disputed by the Eastern Kuku Yalanji Native Title Group.
The purpose of the meeting is also for the Guugu Yimidhirr Native Title Group to discuss and make a decision on the description of the group by descent from apical ancestors. Anthropologists and a Genealogist will be available at the meeting to provide assistance to the Guugu Yimidhirr Native Title Group.

CYLC has limited funding available for travel assistance to this meeting. CYLC may be able to provide some assistance, for example, fuel reimbursement. CYLC will prioritise assisting elders and family representatives and will consider how limited funding can be allocated to support a broad representation of the descendants of all apical ancestors at the meeting.
