Senior Legal Officer – Native Title

This position reports to the Principal Legal Officer and works very closely with the Mangers of the Land Reform Unit, the Business Advisory Unit, the Community and Dispute Resolution Unit and the Anthropology Unit.
As a Senior Legal Officer (NTU), you will be responsible for managing aspects of the Cape York United #1 native title claim, as well leading indigenous land use agreement negotiations and other projects as required.
Your skill and experience in managing complex negotiations and/or litigation will ensure the effective delivery of CYLC’s statutory functions under the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth). You will have experience in working in multi-disciplinary teams in a cross-cultural environment and will have highly developed communication and interpersonal skills to engage in effective consultation with the Traditional Owners of Cape York.
The successful applicant will be a qualified legal practitioner admitted in the Supreme Court of a State or Territory of Australia, with a minimum 5 years of post-admission experience in native title. Expertise in commercial litigation and dispute resolution is highly desirable.
