International Women’s Day 2020 – Supporting ‘Our Sisters’

Mar 7, 2020

Today marks ‘International Womens Day’ for 2020. Today we take a moment to reflect on the strong, intelligent and powerful women at the Cape York Land Council that help shape our future.

As an indigenous owned organisation, governed by a Cape York indigenous board we celebrate International Women’s Day 2020 – Each for Equal.  “An equal world is an enabled world”.

This year’s celebrations were marked by supporting the ‘Our Sisters’ challenge.

Collectively we can create change and shape a future that recognises the contributions of women, celebrates their success and supports the future – our elders, daughters, sisters.

‘The Our Sisters’ program for empowerment integrates trauma-informed education, health, education, ancestral language, and leadership – working with individuals and groups of girls to strengthen emotional regulation, academic capacity as well as their self-belief, so they can aspire to become whatever it is they dream during and beyond school.

If you educate a girl, in mind, body and spirit, she can change her world. She will drive change and break the cycle of poverty for her family

Cape York has a history of strong women who have championed, led and driven change.   Calling for reform of education, law and order and seeking to create opportunities that will support women to take their places in the future at the boardroom tables, in leadership within community, government and leading empowerment from the home.
