CONSULTATION AND CONSENT MEETING
Northern Cape York #1 Native Title Claim Group

With assistance from its legal representative in this matter, Ipima Ikaya Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC (IIAC) will hold a consultation and consent meeting on Tuesday 16 July 2024 in Injinoo with members of the Northern Cape York #1 (NCY#1) Native Title Claim Group about a proposed Indigenous land use agreement (ILUA) between IIAC and the Northern Peninsula Area Regional Council (NPARC). The proposed ILUA will relate to the whole NCY#1 native title determination area (as shown in Map 1 below). The proposed ILUA, if approved by native title holders, will permit the use and/or expansion of existing gravel pits (mostly as shown by green dots on the Map 2 below) and, if native title holders agree in future for a particular area at a publicly notified consultation and consent meeting, new areas as well.
Who is invited to attend the meeting?
The consultation and consent meeting is open to all members of the “NCY#1 Native Title Claim Group” (as defined in the determination of native title made by the Federal Court in Woosup on behalf of the Northern Cape York Group #1 v State of Queensland (No 3) [2014] FCA 1148). Please contact CYLC if you would like to confirm whether you are a member of the NCY#1 Native Title Claim Group and so entitled to attend the meeting.
The meeting will be held as follows:

Time: 5.00pm – 8.00pm
The purpose of the meeting is:
- to consult with native title holders about the proposed ILUA; and
- for native title holders to then decide, if appropriate, whether to consent to IIAC entering into the proposed ILUA between NPARC and IIAC in relation to the gravel pits, including but not limited to things such as protection of cultural heritage, compensation, rehabilitation (of gravel pits), native title validity, the proposed areas of expansion of gravel pits and a process for allowing new gravel pits.
