NOTICE OF MEETING FOR THE EASTERN KUKU YALANJI NATIVE TITLE GROUP Cape York United # 1 Native Title Claim (QUD673/2014)

This notice is to advise that Cape York Land Council (CYLC) will be facilitating a decision-making meeting on 12 June 2024 in Cairns for all Eastern Kuku Yalanji People.

Purpose of Meeting

The purpose of this meeting is for a decision to be made by Eastern Kuku Yalanji People to confirm whether the boundary between the Eastern Kuku Yalanji Native Title Group and the Guugu Yimidhirr Native Title Group is:

  1. The Annan River extending westward along Oakey Creek across the Normanby River to adjoin the Kuku Warra determination area;
  2. The Endeavour River extending westward along the Endeavour South Branch to the Normanby River; or
  3. Another boundary to be described by the Eastern Kuku Yalanji People at the meeting.

Who is invited to attend this meeting?

All members of the Eastern Kuku Yalanji Native Title Group as described in existing Eastern Kuku Yalanji Native Title Determinations, being those people being descendants of one or more of the following apical ancestors:

  1. Siblings Wawuyilkinga, Lily Kajakaja, Ulurban, Kurlur, Juwalkji, Jinabaji
  2. Kilkil (Gilgil) and Yougie (Emera)
  3. Ngamubaralba
  4. Jimmy Johnson Snr and his brothers Toby King and Peter King
  5. Brothers Billy King, Willie King 1 and Willie King 2
  6. Siblings Nambaji, Bijun (Dangara) and Jimmy (Mandilba) Rossville

In addition to the descendants of the apical ancestors above, any other Eastern Kuku Yalanji person who asserts native title rights and interests in the area of the boundary between the Eastern Kuku Yalanji Native Title Group and the Guugu Yimidhirr Native Title Group is invited to attend this meeting.

This is an important decision-making meeting. We encourage all Eastern Kuku Yalanji People to attend.
