Future Acts

A 'future act' is proposed activities or developments on land and or waters done after the 1 January 1994 that may affect native title by extinguishing it or by creating interests that are inconsistent with the existence or exercise of native title under the Native Title Act 1993 (Cwlth).

Examples of such acts are the grant of mining leases and exploration licences, and some compulsory acquisitions.  CYLC provides traditional owners with advice about proposed future acts affecting their traditional country, and makes submissions and objections where appropriate.
